Librarian Named for Demonstration in Vernon Parish

That Miss Margie Lynch has been named librarian for the Louisiana
State Library’s yearlong Vernon Parish Library Demonstration, opening
in November is announced by Miss Essae M. Culver, State Librarian, who
says that the library services, will be distributed through-out the
parish from the Demonstration’s headquarters to be located in the
Leesville Courthouse.

A graduate of the Library School at Louisiana State University, and an
experienced librarian, Miss Lynch for the past year has been parish
librarian for the Vermilion Parish Library, which has its headquarters
in Abbeville. Prior to that she spent three years as assistant
librarian at the Lake Charles Public Library.

Miss Lynch is well known in this area, having been graduated from Lake
Charles high School and attending McNeese Junior College for two years
before she transferred to Louisiana State University. There she
obtained her B.A. from the College of Arts and Sciences before
entering the Library School. Her first library position was that of
branch librarian for the West Monroe Branch of the Ouachita Parish
Library, later she became the assistant librarian of the Avoyelles
Parish Library in Marksville.

A member of the American Library Association and the Louisiana Library
Association, Miss Lynch is also active in the Quota Club, La Clique
d’Etude of the General Federation, and Beta Sigma Phi. She lists her
hobbies as including club and church work, with needlecraft enjoyed
occasionally when time permits.

The November date of opening for the Vernon Parish Library
Demonstration has not yet been announced but work is going on in
preparation for the event as the quarters formerly occupied by the
school board in the Leesville Courthouse are now being repainted and
shelving installed to hold the books to be sent by the Louisiana State
Library.

Added Fact:
Margie Lynch passed away on September 23, 2000, but her love for
libraries remained an important part of her legacy. In her will, she
remembered several libraries, including the Vernon Parish Library.
